The OUC has officially announced its 2009 scholarship results, with 3,068 students receiving an award. Among them, 2,529 students received the OUC scholarship; 439 students received the Field of Hope scholarship; and another 100 students won the IET-Sunshine scholarship.

The result of the one-year photography competition "Living Life Through China Radio and TV Universities" was announced recently with 78 works winning prizes, including 47 works by students and 31 by faculty members. Six provincial radio and TV universities (RTVUs) in Changchun, Harbin, Anhui, Guangdong, and Gansu won prizes for the competition's organization.
Over the past 30 years or so, talent has become a key element of the development and reform of rural China. Modern distance education has played an invaluable role in the process of cultivating talent.On 30 May, the OUC held the 22nd Roundtable Conference on China Distance Education in Hangzhou. Nearly a hundred delegates attended, including specialists and leaders from the OUC, China National Institute for Educational Research, China Agricultural University, China Liaoyuan Radio and TV School, Jiangsu Radio and TV University and Zhejiang Radio and TV University.They examined the historical mission of distance education in modern times, focusing on the Rural Students Training Programme of Zhejiang Radio and TV University.
The OUC held its 2010 Admissions Conference in Qingdao from 26 to 28 May. The main theme of the conference was new situations, requirements and ways of thinking. The OUC needs to have a clear development direction, focus on effective management, use innovative admissions procedures, improve the quality of work and further advance the development of open education. Delegates summarised 2010 spring admissions, exchanged experiences from their various locations, analysed the points and problems arising from open education admissions, explored how to strengthen the management and improve the quality of admissions, as well as preparing for 2010 autumn admissions.
The recent visit of the OUC delegation to the UK and Netherlands was deemed a great success. Headed by Vice-President Zhang Shaogang, the delegation visited distance and higher education institutions and relevant departments between 24 May and 1 June 2010. Out of this visit have grown some new partnerships with European higher education institutions,and the following achievements have made:
On May 25th 2010, Professor Richard Cornell, visited the Open University of China and gave an academic speech entitled "eLearning's Many Faces, Issues, and Potential" in the lecture hall of the library at the OUC.

On May 22, 2010, Vice President Zhang Shaogang of the Open University of China received the President of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) and President of Athabasca University Dr. Frits Pannekoek, in the Chinese Language Center. The two sides discussed broadly and deeply on how to promote international exchange and cooperation with respect to teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Division, Li Yawan and the Director of the Multimedia Press, Liang Xiaoqing, also attended the meeting.
