On November 6, the day of the opening ceremony of Guangzhou 2013 Lifelong Learning for All Activity Week and the Open Day of Digital Learning, Guangzhou Radio and TV University (RTVU) launched Guangzhou Lifelong Learning website (www.gzlll.cn). In order to provide citizens with “digital learning resources with high quality and low cost”, the website offers activities such as “ free gifts” and “preferential courses” on that day, from which people can obtain digital learning courses for free, which actually worth more than 1 million Yuan in total.
“Free gifts” consists of the following five aspects:
“One city, one course” — care action on the learning of migrant workers’ children. In order to let the children of migrant workers share the best resources equally with others. Guangzhou lifelong learning website gave the “synchronous online test tutoring course” of this school year to all students in Grade 2 to Grade 6 at the Dongao School in Tian He district and in Grade 3 at the Haizhu Primary School.
“Thinking training” — popularization of I-go in primary school. In order to help students in primary and middle schools to develop etiquette, virtue and improve their intelligence, Guangzhou Lifelong Learning website gave the online training course on entry level of I-go to students in Grade 3 at Fangcun School.
“Social workers to have certificates” — the training activity for grassroots social workers’ employment with certificates. In order to make grassroots social workers serve communities and neighbors better, the website gave training courses in social worker professional qualifications held by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (MOHRSS) to grassroots social workers recommended by Guangzhou Volunteers’ Union.
“Call me webmaster” — training activity for disabled webmaster’s employment with certificates. In order to help disabled people to find better jobs, the website offers training courses for the qualification in the occupation of computer network administrator held by MOHRSS to the disabled people recommended by Guangzhou Disabled Person’s Federation.
“Learning makes you younger” — free courses for elderly people. In order to meet the elderly people’s need of learning, the website offers courses to the elderly people recommended by Guangzhou Elderly Cadre University for free.
“Preferential courses” is held during November 6 to December 31, 2013. These activities include “easy employment” — special training offer for students in Guangzhou municipal schools, “surprisingly high quality” — learning activity on the website for free and “beneficial training around the city” – the website’s special training offer. All citizens can log on the website to take experiential learning of the vocational skill training course and teenager extracurricular tutorials course and enjoy 40% off by preferential enrollment. Students in Guangzhou municipal universities and colleges, higher vocational school and secondary vocational school can enjoy 40% off on tuition when participating in MOHRSS’s professional English level certification training.
Through the two activities, Guangzhou RTVU aims to share with the public the latest achievements of Guangzhou learning society developments, to form the atmosphere of lifelong learning for all, and to make lifelong learning become the universal belief for all , a powerful weapon for migrant workers’ children, social workers, disabled people, teenagers, undergraduates and elderly people enhancing their feelings of self-esteem, and the core strength for realizing the rise of the Chinese nation and the “China Dream”.
Guangzhou 2013 Lifelong Learning for All Activity Week is hosted by Guangzhou Education Bureau and Guangzhou Adult Education Association, and is organized by Guangzhou RTVU, with the theme of “for the China Dream — promote lifelong learning and develop the learning city” with the focus on building Guangzhou lifelong learning system and the learning city. The opening ceremony was held in Guangzhou RTVU with the theme of “live and learn, education is around you”. At the ceremony, seven RTVU learning centres including campuses in Fan Yu, Zeng Cheng and Hai Zhu gained awards. Guangzhou RTVU also signed the “Guangzhou Digital Learning Harbor Cooperation Agreement” with the Guangzhou Distance Education Centre and the “Cooperation Agreement on Building Guangzhou Digital Learning System” with 16 branch campuses of Guangzhou RTVU. Meanwhile, Guangzhou RTVU launched the Guangzhou Lifelong Learning website at the opening ceremony. During the Lifelong Learning for All Activity Week, Guangzhou RTVU also held an exhibition of Guangzhou digital learning achievements and exhibited an interactive experience area of Guangzhou digital learning.
It is reported that in last three years, based on national education reform projects for the “digital learning harbor” and the “promotion of Guangzhou learning society development”, Guangzhou RTVU developed a digital learning platform independently, gathered high quality education resources to build more than a hundred digital learning varieties and more than 30 thousand class hours of online learning resources. Also, Guangzhou RTVU built a digital learning terminal system and a service system for digital learning .Therefore, a distinctive Guangzhou digital learning public service system has been formed, and the goal of sending learning resources to schools, to families, to communities, and to enterprises has been implemented. At present, with 300 thousand people a year and 5.5 million people in total be trained, a positive contribution has been made to Guangzhou learning society development, and a reference point of experience has been provided for central cities to develop the learning society
