On October 29, 2013, the opening ceremony of the Experimental School of the Open University of China (OUC) was held at its headquarters. Doctor Yang Zhijian, the President of the OUC, inaugurated the OUC Beijing Experimental School, and authorized the Experimental Schools in Taiyuan and Nanhai. The ceremony was hosted by the OUC Vice President Yan Bing.
President Yang Zhijian first explained the important significance of establishing the OUC experimental schools. He pointed out that the establishment of experimental schools in Beijing, Taiyuan, and Nanhai was a very important step, and great move to promote the expansion of the OUC.
President Yang also noted that the OUC is a modern university in that equal attention is given to degree education and non-degree continuing education, supported through the use of information technology. Current OUC expansion continues to reflect the ideal of: “one core, three backbones, and one link”. “One core” refers to enhancing the capacity and standards of operating the University and quality of learner-formation. “Three backbones” means the construction of modern university institutional system and framework, the construction of education digitization, and the construction of efficient organizational systems. “One link” refers to the construction of the credit bank. The construction of the experimental school is a vital link in the efficient organizational system so its position, value, and role are extremely important.
President Yang showed that the experimental schools will become better and better with the combined effort of all parties, playing a vanguard and exemplary role in the implementation of various instructional and administration models under the pattern of the “Six-Network Integration” of the OUC, with the lessons learned benefiting the development of education digitization.
The OUC Experimental School was set up based on the Learning Centre of China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU). The CCRTVU Learning Centre, established in April of 2001, aims to carry out degree education, undertake the “experimental and exemplary” tasks, and devote itself to providing an experimental platform for CCRTVU in the reform of teaching models and teaching management models.
