The OUC’s iTunes U channel was officially launched on February 1, 2013. More than 30 free open courses have been uploaded, providing Chinese teaching and cultural resources for learners both at home and abroad.

As we say goodbye to the past year and welcome the coming of the new year, on behalf of the OUC I would like to wish a very happy new year to all our students, teachers and retired coworkers of the RTVUs at all levels across China, as well as all those who have supported the development of distance education over the past year. 

The 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China Central Radio and TV University (CCRTVU, now The Open University of China, OUC) Press was held at the OUC’s Wukesong Distance Education Teaching Building on the morning of December 22, 2012. Over 400 guests, including university leaders, staff from the CCRTVU Press, publishing industry colleagues and other elites in Beijing, attended the celebration.  

 The 7th Confucius Institute Conference was held at the China National Convention Center in Beijing from December 16 to 18, 2012. During the conference, Hao Ping, Vice Minister of Education, visited the MyEChinese distance education Chinese experiential zone held by the OUC’s Chinese Language Center. 

On December 13, 2012, a conference was held in Beijing to promote cooperation between the Open University of China (OUC) and 15 major cities in the joint development of learning-oriented cities. The 15 cities represented at the conference were: Shenyang, Dalian, Changchun, Harbin, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Xiamen,

On November 30, 2012, the OUC held a ceremony to appoint Professor Yu Zhigang, China University of Political Science and Law(CUPL), legal adviser for the OUC. The appointment aims to adapt to the new educational environment of the OUC and safeguard its legal rights, while continuing to enhance the ability to administer the university according to the law.

 On November 22, the China International Distance Education Conference 2012 took place in Beijing. The conference, whose theme was “Technology Development and Education Innovation for a Changing World”, focused on the upcoming Third Industrial Revolution and discussed how to realize educational innovation in order to foster education equality, encourage the sharing of high quality educational resources,

The meeting featured academic discussions concerning the development of digital library technologies and new application models. Mr. Zhang Ruilin, director of the OUC library, made a keynote speech. Zhao Xuan, from the OUC library, submitted an essay entitled "The Open University of China's Application of a Microblog System", which was awarded second prize in the area of technical application.
