Following consideration and scrutiny by China Central Radio and TV University’s (CCRTVU) Outstanding Graduate Assessment Committee, 412 students, including Yang Xiaoyu, have been named “Outstanding CCRTVU Graduates 2012”.
At the assessment meeting on May 17, vice president Li Linshu and assistant president Liu Chen of the Open University of China (OUC), leaders of 10 provincial RTVUs and leaders from the related OUC departments examined the 438 candidates recommended by 44 provincial RTVUs, the OUC Experimental School, Bayi School, Zongcan School, the Tibetan School, and the School for the Disabled. After a week of scrutiny, approval was finally given to 412 candidates.
All of the outstanding graduates selected, of which the youngest is 20 and the oldest 80, have made prominent study and work achievements. They cover a wide range of occupations, including workers, farmers, businessmen, civil servants, policemen and soldiers. Some have been granted government and school awards for their work in communities. Others have been honored as National Model Workers, National Advanced Workers, “May 4 Youth Medal” winners and “March 8 Role Model Red Banner Holders”. Some are furthering their studies at the RTVUs having obtained master’s degrees or senior professional titles. The accomplishments of the outstanding graduates demonstrate the quality of RTVU open education, and contributing to its wider appeal within society.
Li Linshu pointed out that selection of outstanding RTVU graduates has played a role in establishing the open universities and expanding their social influence. The OUC hopes that the related departments will continue to look for new ways to improve the selection procedure and criteria, so as to create a larger group of model students.
