On the morning of May 16, 2016, the Information Technology Department (Research and Development Centre for Digital Learning) of the OUC, together with the Teacher Development Centre, undertook a cloud classroom application exploration.

In a qualifier for the Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign college students, "Chinese Bridge", held on May 6, 2016 in the Hungarian division, two Hungarian college students, under the guidance of Ms. Niu Zhinan, a Chinese teaching instructor from the Open University of China (OUC), won first and second place in the contest.
On May 6, 2016, a delegation of four people headed by Associate Vice President and Professor Ip Yiu-keung from the Open University of Hong Kong visited the Open University of China (OUC). OUC President Yang Zhijian, Vice President Zhang Shaogang, and heads from relevant departments met with them and discussed cooperation issues. Both sides had an in-depth and pragmatic discussion on how to promote further cooperation and exchanges between them.
From May 3 to 5, 2016, the China International Senior Services Expo (CISSE2016) was held at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing. Co-sponsored by the China Association of Social Welfare, the Open University of China (OUC), and Beijing College of Social Administration, the "Forum on Education for the Elderly and Development of Service Care Professionals," organized by Zhongfuzhangzhe Senior Services Co. Ltd., was held May 4.
