To further the development of the Literature, History, Philosophy and Arts majors, extend reforms, and promote construction of the disciplinary system, the sub-committee for Literature, History, Philosophy and Arts of the Third Academic Committee of the Open University of China (OUC) led the young and middle-aged teachers of the OUC system in a live-broadcast symposium, “Teaching Contemporary Poets and Dialects”, on 19 November 2021, with offline venues in Beijing and Jiangxi.

Following OUC Academic Committee Regulations, the sub-committee of Culture, History, Philosophy and Arts of the Third Academic Committee of the Open University of China (OUC) held its first plenary meeting of the year on 23 November 2021 in order to strengthen its construction and boost development of the majors.

A general opening ceremony for the 2021 National Lifelong Learning Activity Week was held on the morning of 23 November 2021 by means of video conference at a “main venue” located in the Ministry of Education plus37 branch venues.

In October 2021, a book published by the Open University of China Press (OUC Press) entitled Beyond Distance Education: Cutting-Edge Perspectives on the Future of Global Open Universities received a lot of attention from higher education institutions in the UK and has been added to the libraries of several universities.

On 19 November 2021, Song Lei, deputy director of the Department of Teacher Education of the Ministry of Education (MOE), led a delegation to the Open University of China (OUC) to investigate the work of the OUC School of Teacher Training.  Hu Yang, director of the Department of External Education and Training (Community Centre), its deputy director, Lyu Qian, and heads of relevant departments attended the symposium, which was presided over by Hu Yang.  

On the Weigongcun campus of the Open University of China (OUC), ID cards have been replaced by QR codes; teachers use mobile apps or computers for their teaching or office work; VR (virtual reality) headsets are available in the VR lab; and holographic technology allows a teacher to “project” remotely into a classroom.
