On the morning of 17 March 2023, as scheduled, the first class of the new school year began at the Seniors University of China (SUC). Mr. Zhang Boli, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a grandmaster of Chinese medicine, and an honourary president of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, gave a lecture titled "Traditional Chinese Medicine Aiding Elderly Health" to senior friends across the country.

Together, they embarked on a new chapter of learning at the SUC.

Mr. Zhang Boli mentioned that the increasing elderly population has expanded the base of chronic disease patients, and the physiological and psychological characteristics of elderly friends are significantly different from other age groups. To address these characteristics and issues, Mr. Zhang introduced the principles and methods of traditional Chinese medicine health preservation from daily routines, diet, exercise, and other aspects. He used common diseases in the elderly as examples to explain the prevention and treatment methods for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and advocated that elderly friends should not only prevent diseases but also actively treat diseases and recover after illness.

Mr. Zhang Boli believes that "learning is the best way to enjoy one's golden years." Through learning, one can improve their personal accomplishments, which is beneficial for health and well-being. At the end of the course, Mr. Zhang wished all senior students of the SUC to gain knowledge, enjoy learning, and achieve success.

The first class of the new school year was simultaneously broadcasted on various platforms of the OUC (SUC) and external channels, with over a million viewers watching the course.

Various ministries, commissions, and industry associations organised senior students to watch the live broadcast in the course room. Elderly students from all over the country shared their learning experiences and feelings, creating a lively atmosphere. They thanked Mr. Zhang Boli for delivering an easy-to-understand and down-to-earth first lesson of the new school year. They also expressed gratitude towards the government for their care towards the elderly and providing them with a high-quality platform for healthy living.

With the broadcast of the first class of the new school year, the SUC will join hands with the pilot units of the OUC system to offer online and offline integrated teaching through "Cloud Classroom" and "Art Master Lectures." These courses will be open to students nationwide.
