On 29 March 2023, Long Lihong, the deputy minister of the Organisation Department of the Guizhou Provincial Committee, the director of the Guizhou Senior Cadres Bureau, and the Party secretary and president of Guizhou Senior Citizens University, led a delegation to visit the Open University of China (Seniors University of China) for research and learning.
Jing Degang, the Party secretary and president of the OUC, participated in the discussion and exchange, accompanied by Liu Chen, the deputy Party secretary, and relevant staff. The two sides conducted discussions and exchanges on the current situation and opportunities for cooperation in elderly education, the construction of elderly education informatisation, and elderly "Health Care and Preservation, Learning and Travel".
During the symposium, Jing Degang introduced the establishment process, basic situation, and development ideas of the Seniors University of China (SUC). He emphasized that running a good senior university is a necessary requirement to implement the decision-making arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and to implement the national strategy for actively coping with population aging. OUC has traditions, advantages, and resources in running senior universities. The university focuses on building a basic resource-sharing platform for elderly education public services, an online and offline combined elderly education platform, and a high-end platform for "Health Care and Preservation, Learning and Travel". It strives to make the OUC a campus for elderly people to learn, a spiritual home, and a paradise for life, allowing elderly people to age while learning and enjoy their later years through learning. Jing Degang stated that Guizhou Seniors University has gradually embarked on a modern path of elderly education with characteristics of the times and Guizhou features in its nearly 40 years of development. He hoped that Guizhou Seniors University could leverage its own advantages in running the university and strive to become a first-class senior university in China.
Long Lihong stated that the visit to the SUC for research and learning was deeply touching and fruitful. The SUC focuses on actively coping with the national strategy of population ageing, grasps the characteristics of elderly people's life and learning, fully leverages modern information technology, and has established a sound curriculum system, rich course resources, and a high-quality teacher team, which are loved by the majority of elderly people. She hoped that in the future, the two sides could achieve complementary advantages and common development in the sharing of teaching resources, theoretical research on teaching, and other aspects.
Both sides expressed that they would further strengthen communication and contact, establish corresponding cooperation mechanisms, and work together to contribute to the development of elderly education that satisfies the people.
