To fully implement the guiding principles of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the National Conference on Education, and to conscientiously follow the requirements outlined in the "Notice on Holding Activities for the 2024 National ‘Month to Respect the Elderly’” issued by China National Working Committee on Aging, the Ministry of Education (MOE) held the launch ceremony of the joint initiative of “Happy Learning and Respecting the Elderly” on 9 October, 2024, at the Open University of China (OUC, aka the Seniors University of China, SUC).
On 9 October 2024, Harlena Harris, programme director of the Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), sent a letter to Fan Xianrui, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of the Open University of China (OUC), congratulating the successful completion of the international collaborative research project "Fostering Digital Competency, Building Re-Employment Capacity, and Enhancing Well-being for Older Adults in the Digital Economy" (Project No.: CN HRD 05 2022A).

On 29th September 2024, the Founding Conference of the Aesthetic Education Committee of the China Adult Education Association (CAEA) & 1st General Assembly of the Council Member Representative, sponsored by CAEA and organised by the School of Art of the Open University of China (OUC) was held.
