As a response to a call from the Ministry of Education (MOE) to "offer teaching and learning online after the postponement of the spring semester" and in order to serve needs of elderly students for home-based epidemic protection and diversified learning, on 3 February 2020, the Open University for Older Adults of the Open University of China (OUC)issued a proposal for the "Happy Learning and Epidemic Prevention” joint action and launched a public welfare classroom together with other open universities for the elderly in each province and its directly affiliated colleges for the elderly by actively gathering curriculum resources on subjects such as health and epidemic prevention, endeavouring to use the power of knowledge and the spirit of happy learning to control the epidemic.
Promoting and carrying forward community education is a new channel for the Open University of China (OUC) system to serve lifelong learning in China.
In order to implement the epidemic prevention and control work deployed by the Central Party Committee and State Council, and respond to the Ministry of Education’s call for educational institutions to “offer online learning after the postponement of the spring semester” to help both teachers and students to avoid the risk of spreading COVID-19 during offline classes, the Open University of China (OUC) is working with three domestic internet giants, Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent, to launch activities with the theme of “ceaseless learning, epidemic without fear.”
In face of the severe outbreak of COVID-19, Chinese people nationwide are working hard to fight against the spread of COVID-19. The Open University of China (OUC) has actively responded to the state’s call to “offer online learning after the postponement of the spring semester” and is proving a large number of quality online courses to the public for free.
