Lifelong learning not only helps maintain health, but also keeps human resources competitive, promotes the strength of the nation, and helps it cope with the aging of society. Lifelong Learning for All” week, focused on the advantages of continuing education, is coming soon.

The event, implementing the guiding principles of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and of the 2nd, , 3rd and 4th Plenary Sessions of the 19th CPC Central Committee, as well as studying and implementing the thinking of general secretary Xi Jinping on education, aims to help accelerate the construction of an education system that gives every citizen access to continuing education via online platforms and artificial intelligence, to innovate in teaching, and to quicken the development of a flexible education system open to everyone.

The OUC, under the guidance of the Department of Vocational and Adult Education of the Ministry of Education (MOE), has brought together the teams responsible for "Famous Lectures by Renowned Teachers" and "Online Community Education Lectures", and carefully planned a live countdown to the event. The event is organised by the MOE Community Education Research and Training Centre and the OUC Learning Resources Department (the Digital Library), and produced by the OUC Press with the support of the technical departments of OUC Online and the community-education website. The media channels involved include tv.people.com.cn, the Voice of Youth (youth.cn), xuexi.cn, and Tingting FM, promoting the event via live broadcasts in order to meet diverse public requirements. Other platforms, including Huixuexi, the website of ”Lifelong Learning for All” week, bilibili@ OUC, Ticktock@OUC, kuaishou@ouc are also offering simultaneous live broadcasts of the event.

The first live stream is scheduled for 25 October, 2020, the day of the traditional Double Ninth Festival in China. To promote the traditional Chinese value of respecting and treasuring older adults and of giving thanks, we have specially invited Sun Fuwan, OUC professor, and director of the Research Centre for Chinese Traditional Culture, to discuss the positive influence of filial piety in Chinese culture, and explore means of adapting it to modern times. On 28 October, Ms. Tong Ying, a CCTV environmental-protection investigator, recognised for 20 years of "Caring about Forests" in 2019, will be invited to discuss environmental protection and nature. Finally, on 30 October, Mr. Xie Jiaxing, professor at the China Conservatory of Music, and chief consultant with the China Music Research Base, will guide the audience in a search for the profound mysteries of music in the information age.
