The Open University of China (OUC) held the second meeting of the third degree evaluation committee on 15 October 2020 to review the second batch of degree applications for spring semester 2020.
The meeting was organised to specially review degree applications for students who were supposed to apply for their degrees in July 2020 but had to be deferred as a result of COVID-19. After deliberation, the meeting decided to award 54 graduates, including Yu Lu, with bachelor’s degrees from the OUC.
The meeting was held via video conference. Jing Degang, secretary of the OUC Party committee, president of the OUC, and chair of the Degree Evaluation Committee, presided over the meeting. All of the vice-chairs, members, and the general secretary of the committee attended the meeting either onsite or via video conference. Applications for bachelor’s degrees were submitted by a total of 63 undergraduate students from eleven OUC branches, including Hebei, Jilin, Anhui, Henan, Wuhan, Hunan, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Xinjiang. During the meeting, the committee members deliberated on the reports submitted by sub-committees on their suggestions on list of students to grant degrees. After deliberation, 54 graduates were awarded OUC bachelor’s degrees.
Jing Degang noted the importance of the meeting and recognised the suggestions given by the members of the Degree Evaluation Committee. He pointed out that the OUC should always adhere to the principle of “broad admission policy but strict graduation requirements” in order to cultivate high quality graduates and all branches in the OUC system should also unify their understanding to maintain strict quality control and review degree theses according to the related standards. The OUC should guide students to have the sense of academic norms, technical standards, and code of behaviour so as to enable them to make progress and achievements in their career.
