To carry forward the essence of traditional culture, popularize knowledge of traditional sinology, and meet the national demand for sinology learning, the Research and Training Centre for Community Education under the Ministry of Education (MOE) launched the "i – Sinology Experiment " (hereafter short for i-Experiment) construction work in June 2015.

On March 10, 2016, both the Party Branch and the Youth Committee of the Learning Resources Department of the Open University of China (OUC) worked together to hold a student aid event called “New School Bags, New Hope.” Initiated by Xinjiang Daily and the Xinjiang White Swan assistance network, the event has donated schoolbag packages(including stationery, dictionaries, toys, etc.) valued at 39 yuan to children from poor families in the rural and pastoral areas of Xinjiang during the new school term.

On March 19, Beijing Experimental School of the Open University of China (OUC) held their 2016 Spring Opening Ceremony and the launch ceremony for their Mobile Learning Pilot.

Recently, the selection results of “OUC's Top 10 News Events of 2015” were announced. The selection campaign was undertaken jointly by China.org.cn and the Open University of China (OUC).

On March 5, 2016, a HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) instruction training programme for domestic and foreign Chinese teaching instructors successfully concluded.

On February 27, 2016, a two-way video news conference on a distance learning programme developed by the Open University of China (OUC) and the TRAMPIL Indonesia Foundation was held concurrently in Surabaya, Indonesia and Beijing, China.
