2. Questionnaire distribution

The questionnaires were distributed to two groups of people. The first group is teachers and students from 14 grass-roots RTVUs, including five open education schools or experimental schools at or directly under provincial RTVUs, throughout eastern, central, southwest, northeast and northwest China; five municipal (branch level) RTVUs, including two in eastern China, one in central China, one in southwest China and one in northwest China; four county-level RTVUs (including workstations), of which two are in eastern China, one is in central China and one is in southwest China. The other group is teachers in the OUC headquarters and teachers from around the country taking part in the sixth headquarters training courses. 

The questionnaires were issued directly to each grass-roots RTVU in September 2013. The questionnaires for the training courses were issued in stages according to class schedule. All questionnaires were returned by the end of November 2013, with the actual investigation time lasting nearly three months.

IV. Results of data analysis

1. Basic information of the teachers and students 

1.1 Gender 

Among the teachers and students in this survey, there were more female respondents than male respondents (see Table 4).

1.2 Age 

As can be seen in Table 5, the age group of the teachers is 30-44 years, and that of the students is 20-29 years.

1.3 How often do teachers and students watch videos 

As can be seen in Table 6, teachers watch videos more frequently than students.
