Case Studies on World Open Universities (hereinafter referred to as the Case Studies), which was planned and organised by the Open University of China (OUC), is the first large series of full spectrum studies on open universities around the world.
The Case Studies, with Yang Zhijian, former secretary of the Party Committee and president of the OUC as editor-in-chief and the Research Education Institute of the OUC playing a leading role in organising the publishing work, are the result of the joint efforts of an open research team composed of leaders, experts, scholars, young researchers, teachers, and managers from open and distance education institutions in China and abroad. The book series is published by the OUC Press. By December 2018, the first group of 12 works had been published in Chinese, and studies on the second group of 17 works, in both Chinese and English, had also started. According to the plan, studies on 30 typical open universities around the world will be completed and 30 books will be published by 2020. The Case Studies, having been listed in the national key book publishing planning project of the 12th Five Year Plan (2014) by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television and having won second prize in the 10th National Excellent Academic Works in Adult Continuing Education, have been highly praised and recommended by the president of the International Council for Open and Distance Education and other international experts.
