On 21 June 2021, the Open University of China (OUC) and the Open University in the UK (OUUK) jointly held an online teacher-training workshop for teachers from the OUC headquarters, aiming to enhance their capacity for both teaching and innovation. It consisted of three sessions covering online tutoring skills, class design, and curriculum and MOOC production. 30 teachers from the OUC’s ten departments were selected to participate.
Recently, two visually-impaired students, Sun Jingrui and Xu Yun, from the School for the Disabled of the Open University of China (OUC), passed their degree-conferral English examination with scores of 86 and 79 (out of 100) respectively. This was the first attempt of the School to provide test services to students with visual impairments, with strong support from the OUC headquarters and Shenzhen Open University (Shenzhen OU).
On the morning of 25 June 2021, a ceremony to celebrate the openings of the Cross-border E-commerce Demonstration Park in Tianjin and the Cross-border E-commerce Industrial Park of Tianjin Open University (Tianjin OU) was held at the Saixiang hotel in Tianjin City.

Recently, the first 5G smart classrooms entered use at the Open University of China (OUC), marking the introduction of a new generation of digital technologies, including 5G, AI, and big data, into classrooms. The visual impact of the huge touchscreens, and the experience of high tech such as 5G distance interaction in 4K, intelligence-assisted teaching, flipped classrooms, and other novelties, make teachers and students feel as if the campus of the future has arrived.
At the 5th Chinese Government Award for Publishing, held recently in Beijing, The Origin and Evolution of Life, a publication of the Multimedia Press of the Open University of China (OUC), a subsidiary of the OUC Publishing & Media Group, was nominated in the category of Audio-visual, Electronic and Network Publications.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, the OUC’s work conference on 2021 enrolment reform and development research and deployment was held from 9-11 June in Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, the holy land of the Red Revolution. The meeting summarised enrolment in spring 2021, arranged for and deployed enrolment work in fall 2021, and discussed thoughts and measures for enrolment reform and development, and the setup and management of the learning centre.
In order to implement the requirements of the OUC Comprehensive Reform Plan, accelerate the improvement of the quality of the Social Work major in the Open University of China (OUC), and strengthen the construction of the faculty of Social Work throughout the system, a launch ceremony for the “Collaborative Growth” project for teachers in the Social Work major in the OUC system was held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia on the morning of 10 June 2021.
