OUC School of Coal Announces First Batch Graduates


On the 9th April 2018, a graduation ceremony and job fair for the first batch of graduates from the School of Coal of the Open University of China (OUC) was held at Jincheng Coal Vocational Teaching Centre. Wang Hongqiao, vice chairman of the China National Coal Association and dean of the OUC School of Coal, Li Zengquan, deputy dean of the OUC School of Coal, and Qi Yanwei, OUC vice president, attended the ceremony along with representatives of the graduates.

OUC Holds "My Learning Story" Speech Contest


On 14th April, 2018, the finals of the Open University of China (OUC) "My Learning Story" speech contest took place in Beijing. Three students ended up winning the 1st prize, including 80-year-old Tang Zhijie from Beijing RTVU, whose speech was entitled Never Too Old to Learn, Learning Makes you Younger; disabled student Zhang Xiaomin from Guangzhou RTVU, whose speech was entitled Though Disabled in Body, Healthy in Mind; and a kindergarten teacher from the Fujian RTVU, whose speech was entitled Don't Forget Your Heart, Let Beautiful Dreams Brighten Your Way. Six speeches came second, including Winning in Learning, Winning in Perseverance, delivered by a professional breeder from Zhejiang RTVU, Xiang Jizhong.

OUC Southern Data Centre Unveiled at Zhejiang RTVU


On the morning of 12th April 2018, an opening ceremony for the Southern Data Centre of the Open University of China (OUC) was held at Zhejiang Radio and Television University (Zhejiang RTVU). The OUC’s Southern Data Centre project has completed the deployment of data disaster backup equipment, which has achieved data transmission with the OUC’s data centre through a special line and thus marked the successful completion of the first phase of the project. According to the plan, the centre will launch the second phase of the construction project, carry out an application level disaster recovery pilot programme, and further increase the coverage of remote data backup. Over the next three years, the volume of data to be included in the remote recovery programme is expected to exceed 100TB, which will greatly improve the OUC’s overall data security level and reduce the damage to key information systems and core data caused by emergencies and disasters.


OUC Project“Original ISLI-based Shan Hai Jing Media-development Project” Listed in the Project Library for Reform and Development in the Press and Publications Sector
The State Press and Publication Administration (former the State General Administration of Press and Publications, Radio, Film and Television, or SGAPPRFT) released the 2018 annual storage projects listed in the project library for reform and development of the press and publications sector. A project called the “Original ISLI-based Shan Hai Jing Media-development Project”, which was conducted by the Press Group of the Open University of China (OUC), was included on the list.

Online Course for National Arts Fund Project “Appreciation and Creation of Traditional Chinese Landscape Paintings & Moodle Platform” Launched


A launch ceremony for the online course “Appreciation and Creation of Chinese Traditional Landscape Paintings & Moodle Platform”, the first China National Arts Fund project applied for by the Open University of China (OUC), was held on 8th May 2018. The project was approved in August 2017 and is targeted at adult beginners who are keen to learn Chinese traditional landscape painting. The course relies on an internet-based technology platform to quickly improve learners’ painting skills through collaboration and by integrating online and offline teaching. So far, the project’s video resources, Moodle platform, and mobile user terminals have all been completed. The launch of the online course represents the course moving from the preparation stage to the implementation phase.

2018 Plenary Session of the OUC School Affairs Committee Held in Beijing


The 2018 plenary session of the OUC School Affairs Committee was held in Beijing from 9-10th May 2018. Forty-one School Affairs Committee members and nine entrusted representatives from the OUC and 45 of its branches attended the meeting. Personnel from the Secretariat of the School Affairs Committee and heads of relevant OUC departments were also present as observers. Director of the OUC School Affairs Committee Yang Zhijian delivered a report entitled Grasp Meaning and Improve Quality to Go to a Higher Level. The report gave a comprehensive summary of the OUC’s main tasks and achievements over the past year, and presented an in-depth analysis of the current challenges facing the OUC, as well as the key tasks for 2018.
