On the morning of 31 March 2025, Academician ZHONG Nanshan, recipient of the “Medal of the Republic,” member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Director of the Guangzhou Laboratory, delivered the “First Lecture” titled “Wellness in Your Hands: Shaping a Healthier Future” for the Seniors University of China (SUC), imparting the new concept of proactive health to older adults nationwide.

Focusing on health for older adults, Academician ZHONG elaborated on six essential aspects, including psychological well-being, balanced nutrition, proper exercise, smoking cessation and alcohol moderation, early prevention and treatment, and living in a green environment.

He emphasised that older adults should maintain life goals and purpose. The diverse courses offered by SUC provide meaningful engagement, helping seniors cultivate aspirations and a sense of fulfilment.

In closing, Academician ZHONG discussed the positive impact that future medical technological advancements may have on extending healthy lifespans. He encouraged seniors to embrace a positive outlook on life, to cherish the present and to seize the moment.  

The lecture was live-streamed across 27 platforms, attracting over 12.41 million viewers. It was also organised for collective learning by 44 provincial branches, 65 sub-campuses, and 30 co-construction units.
