1. School of Proactive Health was founded under SUC, with focus on creating six high-quality “TCM Master Lectures”.
In January, School of Proactive Health was founded under Seniors University of China (SUC). The establishment of the School of Proactive Health is a key step in comprehensively implementing the national strategy such as the Health China Initiative and proactively addressing population aging. It also represents a significant action in fulfilling the mission of the SUC: “cultivating virtue, pursuing lifelong learning, proactively maintaining health, embracing a joyful life, and achieving positive accomplishments”, with focus on creating six high-quality TCM Master Lectures throughout the year.
2. OUC and CAS Bureau of Academic Divisions Sign MOU for Science Popularisation
On 22 January 2024, the Open University of China (OUC) and the Bureau of Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the "Science and China: Video Lectures by Academicians and Experts" project. This initiative marks a progressive step towards building a society and country dedicated to lifelong learning for all.
"Science and China: Video Lectures by Academicians and Experts" is a public welfare science popularisation project launched in 2012. Over the past twelve years, 319 experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and nationally renowned universities and research institutes have contributed to this endeavour. The project has successfully formed 34 series focusing on medical and health care, and the digital economy, amassing a total of 19,000 minutes of high-quality, public welfare resources. These resources have positively impacted over 500 million teachers, students, and members of the public, both within and beyond the OUC (SUC) system.
3. The parallel session “Education Digitalisation and Learning Society Construction” of the 2024 World Digital Education Conference was held. The Report on the Development of a Learning-Oriented Society in China during the Digitalisation Process was released at the meeting.
On 31 January 2024, the parallel session “Education Digitalisation and Learning Society Construction” of the 2024 World Digital Education Conference was held in Shanghai. Wu Yan, Vice Education Minister of China attended the conference and delivered a speech. Wang Qiming, President of OUC delivered a keynote speech. Fan Xianrui, Vice President of OUC, chaired the Conference.
The Report on the Development of a Learning-Oriented Society in China during the Digitalisation Process was released at the meeting.
4. SUC organises the Exhibition Performance on Teaching Achievements and special Spring Festival Show for 2024.
The SUC Exhibition Performance on Teaching Achievements and the Special Spring Festival Show for 2024 were broadcast on the evening of 7 February on Channel 1 of China Education TV. With the theme of this exhibition, "In the Name of Youth," these performances showcased the teaching achievements of the SUC. This initiative marks an important step for the SUC in actively fulfilling its historical mission, establishing itself as a main channel for elderly education, a significant force in promoting proactive health maintenance, and a driving force in the development of the silver economy. The online and television coverage reached over 56 million people.
5. OUC launches "Double-Ten Plan" Action for fostering excellence and enhancing quality.
On 28 March, OUC launches the "Double-Ten Plan," an initiative aimed at fostering excellence and enhancing quality through the Lifelong Education Platform and SUC, thereby facilitating greater progress in the construction of a learning society through digital empowerment.
6. OUC conducts Party discipline study and education.
On 18 April, OUC Party Committee studied the Party discipline.
7. OUC won first prizes in radio gymnastics and Tai Chi events at the 13th MOE Sports Meet.
In the 13th Sports Meet of the Ministry of Education (MOE) held on 20th April 2024, OUC won first prizes in the radio gymnastics and Tai Chi group competitions, ranked third in the overall score, and was awarded the Excellent Organisation Prize.
8. OUC holds "Telling Stories about Achievements and Becoming Progressive Youth” grand learning event.
OUC held a significant learning event themed "Telling Stories about Achievements and Becoming Progressive Youth" on 30 April 2024. This year's grand learning event includes four key themes: “Zhejiang’s Green Rural Revival Programme,” “Lucid Waters and Lush Mountains,” “Revitalisation of Northeast China,” and “Rural Revitalisation.” Youth representatives from the branches in Zhejiang, Shanxi, and Heilongjiang, as well as the headquarters of the OUC education system, shared stories of achievements and learning experiences. The OUC has organised joint learning activities to celebrate May 4th Youth Day for four consecutive years, featuring stories on “fighting the COVID-19 epidemic,” “Party history,” “Rural Revitalisation,” and “Reading.”
9. OUC (SUC) Honoured with the May 1st Labour Award Certificate for Central and State Organs
In April, the Federation of Trade Unions of the Central and State Organs recently issued a notice on the “Decision to Commend the May 1st Labour Awards for Central and State Organs”. OUC (SUC) was honoured with the May 1st Labour Award Certificate for Central and State Organs.
10. Several OUC Students Awarded with the 2024 National May 1st Labour Medals
On the eve of the International Labour Day, the results of the National May 1st Labour Certificates, National May 1st Labour Medals and the National Model Worker Vanguard Awards were announced. According to incomplete statistics, three students from OUC were awarded the 2024 National May 1st Labor Medal. These students include Bu Weiwei, a student of the Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Automation program at the Hunan Branch of OUC (2018 cohort);Guo Bizhu, a student of the Labour Model (Craftsman) Administrative Management undergraduate programme at the School of Public Management of the Fujian Branch of OUC (fall 2022); and Mao Weimin, a student of the Labour Model (Craftsman) Administrative Management undergraduate programme at the School of Public Management of the Fujian Branch of OUC (fall 2023).
