Recently, the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences released a notice of approval for the "2024 Social Science Association Projects Funded by National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC)".
The "Research on Digital Support for Lifelong Education to Address Population Changes" jointly recommended and applied by the China Adult Education Association (CAEA) and the Open University of China (OUC) has been granted approval for funding. This marks the first occasion that OUC has received approval for such a project since the establishment of Academic Research Association Projects by NSSFC in 2020.
The approved project was presided over by Du Ruo from the Lifelong Education Research Institute of OUC. The project has assembled a team comprising members from the educational administration departments, Beijing Normal University, Renmin University of China, OUC, CAEA and other relevant departments and universities. The research aims to conduct a systematic analysis of the dynamic impact of population changes on lifelong education, explore relevant theories and mechanisms by which digital education can enhance the service capacity of lifelong education, and formulate pertinent policy recommendations. The goal is to foster a close interaction between the development of lifelong education and population changes, as well as economic and social development, thereby contributing to building a society and country of learning where lifelong learning is pursued by all.
It is reported that the funding of NSSFC Association Projects was established in accordance with the "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Construction of Philosophy and Social Science Academic Associations". The initiative aims to drive support from all parties through national funding, thereby further enhancing the academic level, quality of activities, and development capacity of the academic associations. This project represents a significant step towards promoting the construction of China's independent knowledge system and is also the highest-level funding project for academic association in China.
