To study and implement the guiding principles of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the National Conference on Education, and to broaden the reach of high-quality educational resources and establish a ubiquitous and accessible lifelong education system, the Open University of China (OUC, aka Seniors University of China, SUC) and China Education Television (CETV) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on 26 December 2024.

The signing ceremony was attended by Wang Qiming, secretary of the Party Committee and president of OUC (SUC), Fan Xianrui, a member of the Party Committee and vice president; and Yuan Xiaoping, secretary of the Party Committee and station chief of CETV, along with Lyu Xuewu, a Party Committee member and deputy station chief.

Wang Qiming emphasised that OUC(SUC) will use this strategic cooperation as an opportunity to collaborate with CETV in promoting high-quality resources, co-producing programmes themed around elderly education, and jointly shaping brand images. This collaboration aims to enhance the accessibility of high-quality elderly education resources and contribute to the development of a leading country in education and a learning-oriented society and country.

Yuan Xiaoping stated that CETV is fully committed to working closely with OUC (SUC) to create a higher quality, more convenient, and more comprehensive educational platform for the elderly. This effort is intended to foster a new landscape for elderly education development that is widely accessible, diverse in participants, resource-sharing, flexible and varied, distinctive, and well-regulated.

At the signing ceremony, Fan Xianrui and Lyu Xuewu signed the strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of respective parties.

Looking ahead, leveraging the curriculum resources and teaching channel strengths of OUC (SUC), along with CETV's programme production and broadcast coverage advantages, the two parties will engage in comprehensive cooperation. This includes broadcasting on TV channels, developing themed programmes, and promoting through new media. They will promote high-quality curriculum resources such as the "TCM Master Lectures" of SUC, create featured programmes like talent shows, active health initiatives, skill enhancement, and study tours, and build an exclusive new media matrix for elderly education. Together, they aim to cultivate a positive social atmosphere that supports and cares for elderly education across society.
