On 2 December 2024, the Seniors University of China (SUC) hosted a seminar on high-quality development in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
The event aimed to study and implement the guiding principles of the National Conference on Education, accelerate the SUC’s construction, and contribute to the establishment of a ubiquitous and accessible lifelong education system. Xu Mingjun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Open University of China (OUC, also known as the SUC), attended the event.
Xu Mingjun introduced the SUC’s achievements since its establishment in terms of the educational system, platform development, curriculum resources, faculty, and distinctive initiatives. He emphasised that in the future, the SUC will move forward with collaborative efforts in the educational service system, jointly build and share curriculum resources, interconnect learning platforms, jointly cultivate faculty, promote pilot projects, and collaborate on scientific research. The SUC strives to become the "main channel" for senior education, a "strong guide" for proactive health, and a "catalyst" for the silver economy, jointly advancing the high-quality development of senior education.
Liu Chen, vice president of the China Adult Education Association and a specially-appointed expert at the SUC’s Research Institute; Qiu Weiqing, secretary of Party Committee of Guangzhou Open University; Xiong Jun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Guangzhou Open University; and Ming Xiaohui, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Changchun Open University, were among the attendees. The event also included leaders from 20 provincial branches of the SUC, relevant personnel from the senior education departments, and representatives from the National Radio and Television Administration Branch at the SUC and the General Administration of Sport Branch, as well as representatives from co-construction units such as North China University of Science and Technology and cooperation units such as the Sinopharm Group. The participants focused on the high-quality development of the SUC, introduced typical experiences from the development of senior education across the country, and offered constructive opinions and suggestions.
The event also included a discussion on the construction of the SUC's faculty database and the interconnectivity of platforms. The SUC’s Teaching and Educational Administration Centre and Resource Platform Centre presented special reports respectively. Participants, engaged in exchanges and discussions on the development of the teaching faculty and platforms for senior education, addressing issues and sharing insights from their work.
