On 2 December 2024, a delegation of mid-to-senior level civil servants from the Hong Kong Education Bureau, visited the Open University of China (OUC) in Beijing as part of their educational exchange programme.
Wang Qiming, secretary of the Party Committee and president of the OUC, met with the delegation. The symposium was presided over by Liu Xuanxuan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the OUC.
Wang Qiming extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of the OUC, as well as its educational exchange and cooperation with Hong Kong. Combining the university's future development plans, he offered prospects for cooperation between the two parties in areas such as educational digitalisation. He stated that in the future, the OUC will fully leverage its own advantages, uphold the concepts of openness, inclusiveness, and mutual benefit, and maintain close cooperation with Hong Kong universities and educational institutions. He expressed the hope that both sides could continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation, jointly cultivate more new-era talent with a sense of patriotism and international vision, and pool strong joint efforts to build a leading country in education, contributing to the realisation of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Leung Pak Wai, head of the Hong Kong Education Bureau delegation; He Jinhui, Second-Level Inspector of the Education, Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong S.A.R.; and Chen Liping, vice president of the National Academy of Education Administration, respectively delivered speeches, sharing their expectations and visions for deepening educational cooperation between the two regions.
During the interactive session, OUC department heads presented on topics including the School of Education, teacher training for primary and secondary schools, digital education, and elderly education. Participants were highly engaged, actively participating in the Q&A session and delving into in-depth discussions on issues of mutual interest, creating a congenial and lively atmosphere.
The delegation also toured the "Internet + University" exhibition centre at the OUC and the exhibition hall of the Seniors University of China (SUC).
This educational exchange not only deepened mutual understanding and friendship but also laid a solid foundation for the joint development of educational endeavours in both regions.
