To implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC, and the National Conference on Education, and to enhance the teaching capabilities and course-integrated ideological and political education skills of the teaching team, as well as further promote construction of national-level demonstration project for ideological and political education in Community Nursing course, an intensive seminar on this project was recently held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province.
This event was organised by the Academic Affairs Department and the School of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College) of the Open University of China (OUC), and undertaken by Heilongjiang Open University (OU). The event was attended by Zhang Tiejun, vice president of Heilongjiang OU; Feng Li, deputy dean of the OUC School of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College); Su Yuhua from the Course Ideological and Political Education Office of the OUC Academic Affairs Department; as well as heads of the Academic Affairs Department and other relevant teaching departments from Heilongjiang OU.
Those who participated the event included Li Jian, deputy dean of the College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Northeast Forestry University; Shi Yongbo, dean of the Nursing School at Shaanxi OU; Li Ling, head of the Volunteer Service Team of Emergency Rescuers of the Red Cross Society of Heilongjiang; Yu Jie, director of Quxian Community Health Service Centre in Nangang District, Harbin, under the Heilongjiang Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences; along with relevant teachers and students from the Heilongjiang Branch. The event was presided over together by Tang Yiting, an associate professor at the OUC School of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College) and project leader, and Li Tianhui, head of the Medical Programme at Heilongjiang OU and a project team member.
Zhang Tiejun emphasised the need to focus on the core mission of course-based moral education for students, seizing the "main force" of the teaching team, the "main battlefield" of course development, and the "main channel" of class teaching. He advocated for advancing high-quality development in course-based ideological and political education, promoting effective integration and interactive development between ideological education and professional education. This approach seeks to harmonise explicit and implicit forms of education, building a comprehensive pattern of educating people that engages all staff, covers all processes, and addresses all aspects of student development.
Feng Li stated that the greatest advantage of open education lies in its systemic operation. He hoped that everyone would take this project construction as an opportunity to exchange and learn effective experiences and practices from each other, genuinely integrating the principles of ideological and political education into teaching practices to significantly enhance the effectiveness of course-based ideological and political education.
Su Yuhua indicated that the OUC places great importance on the development of course-based ideological and political education. By establishing a dedicated office for this purpose, the university actively implements the decisions and policies of the Party Central Committee and the Ministry of Education (MOE), and does a solid job in the construction of course-based ideological and political education demonstration projects to ensure that these projects produce tangible results, set examples, and emphasise practical effectiveness.
Li Jianzuo delivered a specialised lecture titled “Robotic Technology Supporting Elderly Health and the Current Status and Applications of Bio-3D Printing in Medical Treatment”, in which he discussed the current state of research in robotics, bionics, and bio-3D printing, as well as new trends in robotic development. He highlighted the vast potential applications of smart medical devices designed with bionics and artificial intelligence in China's smart healthcare and elderly care fields. Shi Yongbo, Li Ling, Yu Jie, and Li Tianhui each gave presentations and shared their insights as well.
During the event, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the development of the Ideological and Political Education Model Project in the Course of Community Nursing and conducted field research and exchanges at a community health service centre. Many attendees said that the event was informative with numerous highlights, and provided ample opportunities for exchange, resulting in significant gains. Moving forward, they aim to translate the outcomes of this focused seminar into concrete actions, striving to improve the quality and effectiveness of ideological and political education in their courses. Their goal is to cultivate a new generation of patriotic and dedicated individuals capable of advancing national rejuvenation and contributing to the Healthy China initiative.
