Editor's Note: General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasised at the National Conference on Education that the national education digitalisation initiative should be fully implemented, with efforts to expand the coverage of high-quality education resources and improve public services for lifelong learning.

The Open University of China (OUC) has thoroughly implemented the educational digitalisation strategy, actively promoted the deep integration of digital technology and education, and been committed to building a ubiquitous and accessible lifelong education system. It has carried out numerous beneficial explorations in digital empowerment for lifelong learning, achieving tangible results.

In recent years, the Open University of China (OUC) has been leveraging big data analysis, visualisation, and monitoring and early warning technologies to construct a data-sharing and application system suitable for educational frameworks. This system provides large-scale, personalised, and precise data-driven business application services for educational institutions.

With the rapid development of information technology, the OUC has seized the opportunity of digital transformation in university operations. The OUC has been actively exploring the use of digital technology to enhance the convenience and accessibility of educational services. To address information management challenges faced by students, teachers, and class teachers, the OUC is dedicated to building digital microservices such as "One Student, One Profile", "One Teacher, One Profile", and "Class Teacher Management". These services aim to integrate and consolidate underlying data, providing personalised, one-click accessible, and one-click queryable data services for students, teachers, and class teachers.

From the Student's Perspective:

"One Student, One Profile" Drives Self-Directed Learning

"One Student, One Profile" empowers students with digital tools for self-service and creates comprehensive student growth archives. It integrates personal information, course details, grades, and contact information, enhancing students' sense of achievement and belonging. Students can monitor their learning progress and grades in real-time, which helps foster self-directed learning and improve self-management skills. Since its pilot launch, "One Student, One Profile" has attracted 517,598 users, with a total of 985,984 visits.

From the Teacher's Perspective:

"One Teacher, One Profile" Optimises Teaching Design

"One Teacher, One Profile" creates tailored digital application scenarios for different teacher roles. Teachers can optimise course design, team configuration, and tutoring strategies based on data feedback. For example, course leaders can adjust teaching designs based on resource construction, course selection data, and exam pass rates. Team leaders can evaluate team performance and adjust member configurations using teaching behaviour data. Tutors can view real-time learning behaviour reports of their classes and promptly improve tutoring strategies, encouraging students to engage in online learning. Since its pilot launch, "One Teacher, One Profile" has attracted 3,235 users, with a total of 16,291 visits.

From the Class Teacher's Perspective:

"Class Teacher Management" Enhances Grassroots Management Efficiency

Given the limitations of the original platform in supporting class teachers with course selection management, academic status warnings, grade queries, and student learning supervision, the Department of Digitalisation has developed a data application based on course selection and learning data. This application allows class teachers to query students' course selections, grades, learning status, and academic status warnings, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of grassroots class teacher work through data empowerment. Since its pilot launch, "Class Teacher Management" has recorded a total of 74,057 visits.

The OUC remains committed to a student-and-teacher-centred approach, continuously promoting the deep integration of business processes and digitalisation. The OUC aims to strengthen the comprehensive, all-element, and all-process interconnection, sharing, and collaborative application of teaching data. By providing lightweight, precise, and personalised data application services for frontline users such as students, teachers, and class teachers, the OUC seeks to enhance intelligent evaluation and feedback on teaching behaviuors and outcomes, thereby continuously improving its data application capabilities and effectiveness.
