On 23 September, 2024, under the organisation and arrangement of the College of International Education (Office of Foreign Affairs; Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs)of the Open University of China (OUC), Mr. Sam McIlroy, director of the Language Centre, and Dr. Michael D’Angeli, Academic English Programme manager and tutor of the Language Centre at the University of Oxford, conducted exchanges and discussions with relevant departments of the OUC regarding teacher team building and the development of teacher training work platforms.

Staff members from relevant department of the OUC participated in the event, including Cheng Gang, director of the Department of Digitalisation; Zhao Tingting, deputy director of the Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development, as well as representatives from OUC Online and other relevant departments. The event was presided over by Liu Haiying, vice dean of the College of International Education (Office of Foreign Affairs; Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs).

On-site Exchanges and Discussions

Mr. Sam McIlroy introduced relevant information about teacher professional development and teacher team building at the University of Oxford. Dr. Michael D’Angeli demonstrated on-site various functions and actual usage of the Canvas learning platform in the Language Centre of the University of Oxford. Cheng Gang introduced the crucial supporting role of digital technology in the educational and teaching work of the OUC, and Zhao Tingting introduced the characteristics of the teacher team building and training platform in the Open University system.

There were ample exchanges during the discussion event and the atmosphere was enthusiastic. The two sides reached a consensus on how to further deepen the exchange of teaching work experience between the two universities and carry out broader and more in-depth cooperation in the future.
