Recently, a delegation from the Open University of China (OUC, also known as the Seniors University of China, SUC), led by Liu Xuanxuan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, visited Qinghai Open University (OU) to investigate the progress of elderly education and inaugurate the Qinghai Branch of SUC.
During the inauguration ceremony of the SUC Qinghai Branch and the elderly (community) education work conference at Qinghai Open University, leaders from Guide County Radio and Television University (RTVU), Huzhu County RTVU, Wulan County RTVU, and Minhe County RTVU shared their experiences in elderly education. The event was attended by Gao Jianxin, deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Bureau for Retired Cadres; Song Lei, a member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Department of Education; Agengdeng, deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Civil Affairs Department; members of the leadership team of Qinghai Open University; heads of tutorial centers for elderly (community) education from various systems in Qinghai Province; representatives from teaching stations for elderly (community) education in Xining City; and faculty and staff representatives from Qinghai OU. Together, they heralded a new chapter of elderly education in Qinghai.
Liu Xuanxuan praised the achievements of Qinghai OU in advancing elderly education in recent years and provided a comprehensive overview of the accomplishments of SUC since its establishment. She also proposed recommendations to implement the requirements on elderly education set by the Leading Party Group of the Ministry of Education, formulate and improve the overall planning for elderly education, and enhance the multi-level network for elderly education in Qinghai Province.
Liu Xuanxuan and her delegation also conducted field research at the Qinghai Provincial University for Retired Cadres, Guide County RTVU, Huzhu County RTVU, Banyan Village in Huzhu County, Haidong City, and the Wentingxiang Community in Xining City. The research team included Song Lei, a member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Department of Education; Wang Qi, secretary of the Party Committee, and Liu Jianhong, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of Qinghai OU; as well as staff from the SUC’s Seniors College and the OUC’s General Office of Party and Administration, the Publicity Department, and the Lifelong Education Service Department of Qinghai OU.
