On 15th and 16th May, the Open University of China (OUC) hosted a research and deployment event for the 2024 enrolment initiatives.
Li Song, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of the OUC; Zhuang Li, secretary of the Party Committee at the Fujian Open University; and Yao Fei, deputy mayor of Quanzhou City, attended the event. Leaders responsible for enrolment from 44 branches, heads of enrolment departments, and over a dozen college leaders, totaling more than 160 participants, were present. The event was chaired by Gu Xiaohua, director of the Academic Affairs Department at the OUC.
Li Song emphasised that high-quality education is an essential requirement for contributing to the development of a leading nation in education and for providing education that meets the needs of the people. The educational system should focus on high-quality enrolment processes to address two major contemporary issues: "A Leading Nation in Education: The Role of the OUC" and "Open Education Serving the Construction of a Learning Society." Specifically, the following tasks are necessary: First, continue to expand enrolment initiatives and actively support local economic development; second, consistently advance the systematic development of the educational system; third, strengthen enrolment promotion and build a new media matrix to achieve precise outreach; fourth, the educational system must enhance communication and collaboration to collectively improve enrollment capabilities; fifth, further prevent and manage educational risks and standardise enrolment practices.
At the event, 279 collectives from the OUC's 2023 enrolment efforts were recognised. Gou Xiaohua provided a summary of the spring 2024 enrolment situation and laid out plans for the fall 2024 enrolment. Liu Chunlong, vice president of Sichuan Open University; Zhu Xianbin, vice president of Anhui Open University; Chen Xiangrong, secretary of the Party Committee at Quanzhou Open University; Zhao Jian, president of Baoding Open University; and Luo Yunzai, dean of Ningbo Open University Cixi College, shared their enrolment strategies, reflecting on their respective educational practices.
This event helps various units within the educational system further build a consensus for high-quality development. Participants expressed their commitment to enhancing the quality of enrolment and the development of study centres, improving enrolment capabilities through various means, and working together with determination to write a new chapter in open education.
