From 25 to 26 April 2024, Liu Xuanxuan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Open University of China (OUC), also known as the Seniors University of China (SUC), led a delegation to visit Qingdao Open University to research its elderly education initiatives and unveil the plaque for the Qingdao Branch of SUC.
Li Minggang, Party Committee secretary of Qingdao Open University; Huang Xingguo, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Chengdu Open University; and Li Zhonglai, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of Qingdao Open University, participated in the seminar on elderly education work.
Liu Xuanxuan praised the recent achievements of Qingdao Open University in advancing elderly education in Qingdao city and provided a comprehensive overview of the accomplishments made by SUC since its establishment. She highlighted that SUC will actively promote the "Ten Major Action Plan" in the future and work together with the Qingdao Branch to enhance the high-quality development of elderly education through initiatives such as joint development of premium courses, sharing of public service platforms, and cooperation in work mechanisms.
Li Minggang presented an overview of the general educational operations at Qingdao Seniors Open University. He affirmed that Qingdao Open University will uphold the mission of SUC, focusing on expanding elderly education offerings, innovating the elderly education system and mechanism, pooling high-quality social resources, and leveraging digital advantages to effectively manage the SUC Qingdao Branch.
Li Zhonglai showcased the distinctive characteristics and achievements of elderly education at Qingdao Open University, analysing current issues and proposing the next steps in terms of strategies and actions.
The unveiling ceremony and 2024 spring semester opening ceremony of the SUC Qingdao Branch and Qingdao Seniors Open University were successfully held. In attendance were Tao Xingcheng, deputy secretary-general of Qingdao Municipal Government; Jiang Lin, deputy secretary of the Education Working Commission of the Qingdao Municipal Party Committee and deputy director of the Education Bureau; the leadership team of Qingdao Open University; as well as leaders and representatives from cooperating units in elderly education, marking the beginning of a new chapter in elderly education in Qingdao.
The delegation also conducted on-site research at Qingdao Open University and Qingdao University for Seniors of Military Retirement (College for Seniors of Military Retirement, Qingdao Seniors Open University). Staff members from the Seniors College directly affiliated to SUC and the General Office Party and Administration of the OUC, as well as the Party and Administration Office and Community Education School of Qingdao Open University, participated in the discussions and research.
