To further expand the career development opportunities for disabled students and enhance their employment skills, the School for the Disabled at the Open University of China (OUC) recently hosted the opening ceremony for the "Fulfilling Angels' Dreams" public welfare skills training project.
The programme focuses on "Preparatory Training for the Assistant Social Worker Examination" and "Digital Drawing." Tang Weizhi, a member of the Party Committee and vice president of Shenzhen Open University (OC); Feng Jianjun, director of the Education and Employment Department of the Guangdong Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation; and Mao Zhenzhong, deputy director of the Shenzhen Comprehensive Service Centre for Disabled Persons, were in attendance. Hu Min, dean of the School for the Disabled at Shenzhen Open University, along with relevant faculty members and 50 representative trainees, participated in the event.
Tang Weizhi delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of Shenzhen OU, introducing the institution's founding history, its spirit and motto, and its approach to nurturing talent to the attendees. He emphasised that Shenzhen OU places a high priority on the " Fulfilling Angels' Dreams " public welfare skills training project. The relevant departments have made early arrangements and meticulous plans to ensure the provision of comprehensive and multi-level training services for the trainees. The objective is to guarantee that all students can not only apply what they have learned but also excel in their respective fields through this learning experience.
Feng Jianjun fully acknowledged the educational and teaching efforts of Shenzhen OU. He noted that the School for the Disabled at Shenzhen OU leverages social resources and corporate partnerships to deliver top-notch vocational training to disabled individuals at no cost. This program provides them with fresh opportunities and avenues for employment and entrepreneurship, playing a crucial role in enhancing Guangdong Province's support services for the disabled and fostering the advancement of disability initiatives.
During the opening ceremony, Tang Weizhi presented Shenzhen Huion Trend Technology Co., Ltd. with a "Charitable Donation Enterprise" plaque. This was in recognition of their generous contributions, which included donations of equipment, provision of customized courses, and offering professional guidance to students with disabilities.
Zhang Dan, speaking on behalf of disabled students, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the public welfare skills training. She stated that the students would cherish this learning opportunity, aiming to acquire professional knowledge, enhance their comprehensive abilities, and realise their self-worth.
After the opening ceremony, the students moved on to their first class, which served as an introduction to their teachers, study plans, assessment methods, and more. The classroom atmosphere was vibrant, with the students displaying tremendous enthusiasm and actively engaging with their teachers.
Moving forward, the OUC School for the Disabled will mobilise various societal forces to enhance participation in assisting the disabled. They will develop more courses tailored to the physical and mental characteristics of disabled individuals, while also adapting to contemporary developments. Additionally, they will intensify the organisation of skills training, focusing on the needs of the disabled community and conducting targeted training. This approach aims to achieve a high-quality connection between training and employment, and to promote the high-quality development of education for the disabled.
