The Ministry of Science and Technology selected "Holding Up the Sun of Tomorrow: The Oriental Mega-ring - Can Artificial Sun Assist in Interstellar Travel," a new micro video by the Open University of China (OUC), as one of the excellent popular science micro videos of 2023.
Narrated by Li Jiangang, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the video explores the question and showcases China's remarkable achievements in developing scientific apparatuses and technological innovations. The stunning visual presentation highlights China's prominent contributions and leading position in the field of energy.

This video is part of "Science and China – Video Lectures by Academicians and Experts," a collaborative project by the Bureau of Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the OUC. The project invites academicians and experts from various scientific and technological fields to deliver popular science lectures that are published by OUC to promote scientific interest and enhance public scientific literacy. The project has featured 120 academicians and 380 experts, who together produced 46,000 minutes of public video lectures. The series has received as many as 50 national, provincial and ministerial-level awards.
The National Excellent Popular Science Micro Video Competition, organised by the General Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Department of General Administration of the CAS, receives recommendations from localities and departments and public solicitation. Following formal review, expert evaluation, and online voting, a total of 100 excellent popular science micro videos were selected for the 2023 competition.
