"Life in Science - A Hundred-Year Journey," overseen by the Committee for the Construction of Science Ethics of the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASAD), is a collaborative effort.
Jointly planned by the Open University of China (OUC) and the Documentation and Intelligence Centre of CAS, along with the Activity Base of Academicians of CAS in Shenzhen, this project was coordinated and advanced by the Learning Resource Department (Digital Library) of the OUC and skillfully executed and produced by the Audio and Video Press of the OUC Publishing & Media Group.
The project spotlights the scientific endeavours of 154 CAS academicians who celebrated their centennial birthdays between 2017 and 2023. By selecting comprehensive and detailed firsthand historical materials from CAS, it constructs a video text that melds grand historical narratives with vivid personal accounts. This initiative retraces the significant contributions of these academicians during crucial historical periods across various disciplines. It aims to illustrate the essence of "the spirit of patriotism, embracing the destiny of the country and nation as one's own responsibility," and to promote "the spirit of scientists with patriotism.".

Since 2021, projects either self-planned by OUC or jointly planned with relevant CAS system units have been recognised as key publication selections in the thematic publications of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee for three consecutive years. It is reported that for this selection process, a total of 2,378 thematic publication selections were submitted by various units across the country. Ultimately, 170 thematic publications were chosen for the final selection, with only 20 of these being designated as audio-visual electronic publications.
