On the afternoon of 15th November 2023, the signing ceremony for the collaboration between the Open University of China (OUC), Xiamen Open University, and Xiamen Senior-Citizen University in the construction of the Xiamen Branch of the Seniors University of China (SUC) took place at Xiamen Senior-Citizen University.

Prominent figures in attendance included Fan Xianrui, a member of the Party committee and vice president of the OUC; Zhan Cangzhou, former member of the Standing Committee of Xiamen Municipal Committee and president of Xiamen Senior-Citizen University; Chen Xiuxin, deputy director of the Organisation Department of Xiamen Municipal Committee and director of the Bureau of Retired Cadres; Lin Gang, deputy director of the Bureau of Retired Cadres; Hong Jun, deputy director of Xiamen Municipal Education Bureau; Jiang Xianli, Party secretary of the Xiamen Open University; Tang Ning, president of the Xiamen Open University; and Li Longbo, executive vice president of Xiamen Senior-Citizen University. These leaders were joined by middle-level executives and representatives from the co-construction units. During the ceremony, Fan Xianrui, Li Longbo, and Tang Ning signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of their respective parties.

The Xiamen Branch of SUC is an educational institution for senior citizens, established with strong support and direct promotion from SUC, as well as close collaboration between Xiamen Senior-Citizen University and Xiamen Open University. It relies on the senior university system and online learning platform resources of Xiamen at all levels. The Xiamen Branch adheres to the principles of "cultivating virtue, pursuing lifelong learning, proactively maintaining health, embracing a joyful life, and achieving positive accomplishments." It aims to expand the availability of senior education, prioritize innovation in the senior education system and mechanisms, enhance the quality of life for the elderly, integrate and utilize social resources, stimulate social vitality, and strive for the modernization of senior education.

In the future, the Xiamen Branch of SUC will focus on organising systems, developing management mechanisms, integrating business operations, and consolidating resources. The aim is to bring together high-quality resources and create a new pattern of senior education with Xiamen's local characteristics, promoting high-quality development in the field.
