On 7 April 2023, the top international academic journal Science published a new paper by Professor Zhang Yan, a distinguished member of the panel of experts from the Engineering Research Centre for Technology Integration and Application of E-Learning, Ministry of Education (MOE), China.

The article, which featured on the front-page of the edition, is co-authored by Professor Zhang and the Engineering Research Centre. The latter was established by the Open University of China (OUC), under the guidance of the MOE.

The OUC is now planning to promote the team led by Professor Zhang Yan to jointly set up a high-level research team with the OUC’s Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine. The goal is to develop and train a high-calibre teaching team, take the initiative to adapt to the requirements of a new medical discipline, and advance the integration of the engineering and medical disciplines. The plan is also to cultivate new inter-disciplinary subjects in areas such as intelligent medical engineering, digitalisation and medicine in order to better train talent as well as promote the high-quality development of the university.
