In order to further enhance degree education at the Open University of China (OUC) and the development of disciplines and majors, the Faculty of Agroforestry and Medicine (Rural Revitalisation College) of the OUC held a seminar for its teachers both online and offline on 8 December 2021.
The seminar covered the construction and development of the majors and of “golden courses”, curriculum-based ideological and political education, construction and operations of online teaching teams, and teaching research.
Ju Chuanjin, OUC vice president and member of the Party Committee, delivered a speech, and all teachers in the faculty took part in the event offline, while over 200 OUC members, including heads of the teaching departments and Agroforestry and Medicine majors, members of the Teaching and Research Centre of the Agroforestry and Medicine undergraduate majors, core members of online-teaching teams from more than 30 branches, the Experimental School, and the School of Life and Health, leaders of the “One College Student Per Village Programme”, and teaching-management staff attended the seminar online.
Ju Chuanjin pointed out that the OUC’s strategy for enhancing degree education is in line with that of the OUC Party Committee in terms of regulation of teaching, promotion of the development of disciplines and majors, and enhancement of the quality of education. He stated four requirements for teaching in the faculty’s majors: strengthening its political stance, ideological guidance, and development; using the advantages of the OUC system to bring together famous teachers and create high-quality resources; serving Rural Revitalisation and “Healthy China” via information technology; and taking an open and inclusive approach to teacher training.
Li Guangde, deputy director of the faculty, reported on five aspects of its work in 2021: construction of majors and online-teaching teams, curriculum-based ideological and political education, skills-related courses, and work related to Rural Revitalisation. The participants also discussed the prospects for 2022. Professor Wang Xunjian of Hubei Open University gave a special report on “How Agroforestry and Medicine teacher of open universities do a good job scientific research”, while relevant teachers from the faculty also spoke on adjustments to learner-development plans, course construction, and other aspects of their work,, including collaborative teaching in the Pharmacy major and “gold courses” in Agriculture.
The participants agreed that the activity had achieved its aim of promoting the work and development of the faculty.
