On 19 October 2021, the 2021 Online Chinese Medical-diet Training Programme for Overseas Chinese was launched, sponsored by the Xichuan Provincial Returned Overseas Chinese Federation, the Sichuan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Chengdu University of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), and organised by Huaqiao College of the Open University of China (OUC).
Xu Yongming, vice chair of the Xichuan Provincial Returned Overseas Chinese Federation; Zhou Jiping, secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu Open University; Xu Lian, vice president of the Chengdu University of TCM; Zeng Lin, director of the International Cooperation Department of the Sichuan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; and Mou Dongliang, deputy secretary general of the World Federation of the Chinese Catering Industry, attended the opening ceremony and gave speeches. More than twenty members of overseas catering-industry federations, overseas-Chinese associations, and art-exchange associations from seventeen countries attended via video link, while Liu Dongmei, dean of Huaqiao College, presided.
Zhou Jiping introduced the purpose, methods and content of the programme, stressing that it was being presented by Huaqiao College using its “Internet Plus” capabilities in order to reach overseas Chinese, and that the video series would be jointly produced by the College and the Chengdu University of TCM to focus on diets that follow the prescriptions of classical TCM in order to teach overseas Chinese about these diets and their effectiveness, while enhancing their culinary skills. Huaqiao College and the Chengdu University of TCM will set up region-based student groups and provide online instruction and learner support, including interactive tutoring and Q&A sessions through the College’s online platform and official WeChat account, with students given feedback on their progress in order to guarantee the effectiveness and quality of the training. The ultimate hope is also to promote TCM and Chinese culture around the world.
