In order to promote the construction of disciplines within it, the Faculty of Economics and Management of the Open University of China (OUC), along with the Economics Sub-Committee of the OUC Academic Committee, held an academic salon titled "New Finance, New Forms of Business, and New Trends" on the morning of 28 September 2021.

Xie Haibin, professor at the University of International Business and Economics, and Liu Quanbao, president of Beijing Educhainx Technology, were invited as keynote speakers, and the event was also attended by Professor Li Song, vice president of the OUC and director of the OUC Academic Committee. The event, presided over by Dr. Wang Jia of the Faculty of Economics and Management, attracted over 330 participants both online and offline.

Li Song stressed that teaching and research are inseparable, and reinforce one another, promoting the high-quality development of open education, and innovation within it. He praised the work of the Economics Sub-Committee of the OUC Academic Committee, and pointed out that, in the future, more forms of academic activity should be explored, in order to cultivate famous and great OUC teachers. As young people are the future of a country, young teachers are the future of a university, and therefore the OUC, its Academic Committee, and all its faculties should create a platform to encourage their growth. Li Song stressed that obtaining a doctoral degree marks the beginning of an academic career, and that young teachers should dedicate themselves to undertaking research and enhancing not only their research abilities but also their abilities to innovate and collaborate. Teachers at all levels should work together and promote each other’s growth.

Professor Liu Zhifang, vice dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management, delivered a speech on behalf of the Economics Sub-Committee of the 3rd OUC Academic Committee. She expressed the hope that the event would motivate members of the Academic Committee in the performance of their duties, the planning and discussion of research, the promotion of young people, and the faster construction of teacher teams, leading to breakthroughs in the quantity and quality of academic achievements of the Economics Sub-Committee, and ultimately promote the realisation of the objectives of the 14th Five- Year Plan of the OUC.

Liu Quanbao delivered a speech titled Training in Finance, Science, and Technology: Talent in the Digital Economy. He believes that digital technology has changed economic operations, and that digital RMB will bring new changes to an economy based on digital technology. In this era, skilled workers are needed to apply science and technology to finance. Colleges and universities should focus on training teachers in these areas of economic significance.

Xie Haibin gave a speech titled Prediction of Directions: the Conditional Autoregressive Beta Model (CARB) Based on High-frequency Data. He proposed a ratio-decomposition method based on high-frequency data, and analysed the CARB model on this basis. Both the empirical results and a simulation show that the CARB model is better than the dynamic Probit model in predicting directions.

Dr. Yang Zhenyu and Dr. Huang Shan from the OUC Faculty of Economics and Management shared their research on, respectively, the development of financial disciplines and of innovative teaching in relation to New Finance.

Zhu Guiping, professor at the OUC Changchun Branch of the Economics Sub-Committee, and Song Chunmei, professor at the OUC Dalian Branch, commented on the theme of the salon and the reports of the experts by explaining financial technology and analysing training in it. They praised the salon and encouraged young teachers to engage in academic researches.

The event has received praise from OUC professors, and is helpful to strengthen research in its Economics and Management majors and enhance the quality of talent training there.
