Recently, the Department of Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced a list of publications selected from university presses around the country in 2021. China Spirit, which was edited and produced by the Multimedia Press of the Publishing & Media Group of the Open University of China (OUC), was successfully selected for the list.
The micro-video series China Spirit is an ideological and political course project organised and constructed by the OUC School of Marxism under the overall planning of the OUC Learning Resources Department (the Digital Library). The OUC Publishing & Media Group attaches great importance to the planning and publishing work on the basis of the project system. It is committed to developing micro videos based on the guiding principle of making blockbusters and with the aim of reflecting the magnificent historical background and vertical depth of ideological theories through a macro perspective. The design of the series focused on the unity of content, structure, and visual effects.
China Spirit emphasises the systematicness of disciplines. Experts and professors from Nankai University, Beijing Normal University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and other institutions were invited to join the consultant and author team. A strict approval process and review mechanism was established in order to ensure the academic, scientific, and authoritative nature of the publication. In terms of content, the series of micro videos unfolds from two dimensions — Chinese national spirit and the spirit of the times — through the narration of the “Pedigree of the Chinese Spirit” in the three stages of revolution, socialist construction, and reform and opening up. It displays the process of struggle intertwined with the suffering and glories of the Communist Party of China via the description of Red Classic Works and contemporary role models. The goal is to present the spiritual force driving China’s great cause of socialism and the spiritual pillars of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Visually, the videos are presented in a form of feature films with voice-over interpretations combed with a large number of images, sounds, and other materials to strengthen the visual impact and enhance ideological penetration. China’s core spirit is revealed through the “narration of stories,” which has also brought history “alive” and highlighted the Chinese spirit. Identifying and interpreting the Chinese spiritual pedigree reflects the power of faith and fighting spirits to bravely challenge difficulties and seek success with the support of firm ideals and beliefs, which encourages learners to shoulder responsibilities and move forward bravely.
A total of 63 university presses submitted 488 topics of which 63 were selected for the thematic publication project organised and implemented by the MOE Department of Social Sciences in 2021. China Spirit was shortlisted after several rounds of selection for its value in terms of contents. The OUC Publishing & Media Group will continue to adhere to the principle of “bringing together famous teachers, adhering to originality, and publishing high-quality works,” constantly strive for excellence, and remain committed to providing high-quality audio and video teaching resource construction and publishing services for the OUC and the open education system in China.
