On the morning of 12 May 2021, the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a group interview for Chinese and foreign journalists. Five young CPC members spoke there on the topic of the “Duties and Responsibilities of Youth in the New Era”.
Lu Yi, an undergraduate Law student in the Autumn 2020 class at Anhui Open University (Anhui OU), is the first secretary and team leader of the poverty-alleviation mission stationed in Tuqiao Village, Xutuan Township, Mengcheng County, Anhui Province. She was one of the five attending the interview, and shared with the journalists her experiences in the village.
As a student, Lu Yi is respectful of her teachers and diligent in her studies, and always works to apply her classroom learning to poverty-alleviation work, with good results.“Make learning a habit, a way to self-enrichment, and a lifestyle,” she said as freshman representative at the opening ceremony for the 2020 class. She herself was determined to study hard and do well.
Through the efforts of Lu Yi and her co-workers, the village has made the right of use for its 7,260 mu of land (1 mu = 0.16 acre) transferrable, enabling the villagers to find employment locally by developing a 1000-mu vegetable field, and supporting four enterprises established by returnees.
“The fight against poverty has achieved an overall victory, but rural revitalisation remains to be achieved.” Lu Yi said enthusiastically that in the future she will continue to work to see that rural revitalisation becomes a reality.
Lu Yi was named “Anhui Woman Pace-setter” in November 2020, as well as a “National Anti-poverty Role Model” and “National Outstanding Cadre of the Communist Youth League”.
