Duan Xuhui was a Business Administration undergraduate at Xi’an OU in the spring 2012 class. He is a member of the Communist Party of China and is chair of the work union, director of the organisation office of the company Kunlun, and a senior political worker.

In addition to his regular work, he volunteers in the company library and leads CPC and youth-league volunteers. He is a role model of “Lei Feng Spirit” in the community, and radiates positive energy and benevolence.

In early 2020, Duan undertook leadership of the struggle against Covid-19, helping man the company gate with team leaders, and check the temperatures and health codes of anyone entering. People who did not know his name referred to him as the “good young person” instead.

Duan is also a member of the Shaanxi Provincial Charity Federation, director of the Xi’an Charity Volunteer Union, and group leader in the Xi’an Volunteer Network for the Elderly. For over ten years, he has volunteered in the city’s nursing homes and special-education centres.

Out of more than 30 honours, Duan has been named “National Most Beautiful Volunteer for Respecting the Elderly”, “Shaanxi Good Young Person”, and “Shaanxi Most Beautiful Volunteer”. His deeds have also been widely reported by mainstream media in the province. Under his influence, Duan’s co-workers and friends have joined him in volunteering.                              

According to him,“It is easy to do one good deed, but hard to keep doing them. Volunteering is a marathon, and perseverance is key. Then those you serve feel your sincerity.”     

He has persevered since 2008, while others around him have joined and quit. He wishes to extend his benevolence and warmth to the rest of society .
