The Open University of China (OUC) held a training workshop for the Institute of Teachers’ Professional Development of Mongolia (ITPD) from 17-18 November 2020, in an attempt to implement a cooperation agreement with UNESCO.

Since the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the UNESCO Beijing Office and the OUC in May 2020, the two sides have actively strengthened exchange and cooperation. In light of the OUC’s experience in distance education and teaching, the UNESCO Beijing Office proposed offering training for Mongolian teachers on the production of radio and television courses and their instruction by experienced teachers from the OUC. After consulting with the UNESCO Beijing Office and ITPD, a designated institute of the Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia, the OUC provided training for teachers of ITPD on two topics, Teaching in Front of a Camera and Bringing Learning Alive: From Design to Development, aimed at improving Mongolian teachers and teaching administrators’ ability to design, produce, and teach high quality TV (radio) teaching programmes.

The training workshop was led by Shi Yunzhi, deputy director of the OUC International Department, with Mr. Cui Song from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Ms. Cui Qin from the Resource Centre giving lectures. Mr. Robert Parua, programme specialist of education of the UNESCO Beijing Office, attended the event and delivered an opening speech.

After the training, the ITPD teachers affirmed the effectiveness of the training, saying that they had learned a lot from it and would continue to learn from the teaching and production methods of the OUC to improve their abilities.
