On the afternoon of 25th October 2017, an inauguration ceremony for the first college to provide education services for overseas Chinese in Ningbo, Ningbo Huaqiao College, was held at May 1st Square. Yang Xiaotang, deputy party secretary of the Open University of China (OUC), Cen Guorong, party secretary of the Zhejiang Province Returned Overseas Chinese Federation (ROCF),Liang Qun, Ningbo Municipal Standing Committee member and director of the United Front Work Department, Li Chengshu, party secretary and chairman of Ningbo ROCF, Zhang Jianguo, deputy director of Ningbo Bureau of Education, and Weng Xuelian, president of Ningbo Radio and Television University (Ningbo RTVU) Community College, inaugurated Ningbo Huaqiao College.
OUC deputy Party secretary Yang Xiaotang delivered a speech, during the opening ceremony. He hopes that by taking advantage of the good timing when the party and the state have made important instructions for overseas Chinese Affairs, the geographical convenience of Ningbo as a starting sea port of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the close cooperation of Ningbo people in China and abroad, Ningbo RTVU can cooperate closely with Ningbo ROCF, jointly explore an effective path for overseas education services, and share Ningbo’s experience with the whole country.
Ningbo Municipal Standing Committee member and United Front Work Department director, Liang Qun, pointed out that the majority of returned overseas Chinese, returned overseas students, and Chinese people from Ningbo residing abroad are an important force in promoting economic and social development and they have made important contributions in boosting the reform and opening up. He said that the ROCF is a bridge bonding the party and the country with returned overseas Chinese and their family members, Chinese residing abroad, and returned overseas students. The establishment of Ningbo Huaqiao College will help it better serve the needs of these groups.
Relevant leaders and representatives from the Working Committee of Issues Relating to Minority and Religious Groups, Returned Overseas Chinese and Foreigners under the Municipal People's Congress, the Working Committee for Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Returned Overseas Chinese and Foreign Affairs under the Municipal Political Consultative Conference, the Education Bureau, the Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publication Bureau, the Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Municipal Charity Federation, the ROCF in Ningbo and their subordinate system, witnessed the inauguration of Ningbo Huaqiao College.
At the inauguration ceremony, the volunteer service team from Lime: Home for Returned Overseas Chinese was awarded with a flag and a contract was signed for the establishment of a Returned Overseas Chinese Charity Fund in Ningbo. Ningbo RTVU Communist Youth League Secretary, Zhou Lei, and the volunteer service team captain, Qian Kun, received the flag from Li Feng, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Ningbo Municipal Committee, and Dong Yiwei, vice chairman of Ningbo ROCF. With that, Lime: Home for Returned Overseas Chinese’s volunteer service team started sacred mission to serve returned overseas Chinese. The Returned Overseas Chinese Charity Fund, jointly established by Ningbo ROCF and Ningbo Charity Federation, invited a number of company representatives to the stage to make donations.
Before the start of the event, returned overseas Chinese representatives and expats working in Ningbo tasted tea, painted peonies, learnt about paper cutting, and appreciated Chinese zither music.
Ningbo Huaqiao College, as a branch of the OUC’s Returned Overseas Chinese College in Ningbo, is co-sponsored by Ningbo RTVU (Ningbo Community University) and Ningbo ROCF. In response to the 19th national committee of the Communist Party of China’s call to "unite Chinese residing abroad and returned overseas Chinese and their family members to work together for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation” and in order to gather together the skills and strengths of overseas Chinese and share and fulfil their common Chinese dream, Ningbo Huaqiao College will rely on the three-level system and resources of Ningbo RTVU (Ningbo Community College) and Ningbo ROCF, focus on the integration of different education service platforms, explore a multifaceted dialogue and cooperation mechanism, gradually improve its ability to provide various forms of education and training to returned overseas Chinese and their relatives, relatives of overseas students, Chinese residing abroad, and expats in Ningbo.
