Miao embroidery refers to the embroidery skills and arts passed down by the Miao people in China. Miao embroidery is one of the unique manifestations of Miao history and culture, and the distillation of Miao women's diligence and wisdom. Miao embroidery has become an indispensable part of Miao culture in Xiushan Autonomous County, Chongqing.

Recently, an opening ceremony for the Chongqing Xiushan Miao Embroidery Training Programme was held at the Xiushan Branch of Chongqing Radio and TV University (Chongqing RTVU). More than 20 rural women and young entrepreneurs from villages and towns in Xiushan Autonomous County participated in the training. The five-day training, sponsored by the Xiushan Branch of Chongqing RTVU, aims to pass on intangible cultural heritage, promote industrial poverty alleviation and the re-employment of left-behind women, transform the value of the rural labour force, and promote local economic development through employment.

An expert in Miao Embroidery and a female embroiderer from Jinzhu Miao Embroidery in Xiushan Autonomous County were employed as instructors. With their careful guidance and the on-site demonstrations and instruction, the students have made great progress in the stitches and techniques of Miao embroidery. They also gained a preliminary understanding of the production and technical process of Miao embroidery and the application of various stitches.

"After five days of training, we have learned a lot. Under the careful guidance of the two teachers, we have made great progress in our embroidery skills. We will continue to learn the skills of Miao embroidery on the foundation of this skill training in order to embroider better works," one of the trainees said. The training played an active role in continuing the traditions of the Miao people, passing on Miao culture, helping them to overcome poverty, and supporting the development of tourism commodities.
