"In the digital age, you are out of date if you don't know how to use WeChat. The WeChat instruction manual teaches you to use WeChat in just a few minutes."

Recently, the Open University for Older Adults and China National Radio (CNR) jointly held a contest called "I Solved a Problem for my Parents". Internet users uploaded all kinds of problems and the corresponding solutions to the Ailaobang app launched by the Open University for Older Adults, helping the elderly to enjoy a new life brought about by development.

The Ailaobang app helps the elderly to solve the problems they encounter in their daily life at any time, in any place. It is their "secretary". All they have to do is log in to http://www.lndx.edu.cn/ and find the Ailaobang activity zone to scan the QR code and download the app.

“I Solved a Problem for my Parents”, the first encyclopedic knowledge contest, was held on October 27, 2015. The contest consists of three stages: collecting problems, collecting case studies of solutions, and voting. During the stages, users can log in to the Ailaobang official website (http://bang.lndx.edu.cn/) to check the problems and cases uploaded by other users. They are also welcome to write and upload related questions and answers concerning the encyclopedia of knowledge for older adults. The awards are selected through voting, and contestants have the chance to win a “sightseeing tour” of the Open University for Oder Adults worth RMB 10,000, plus many other prizes. The winners will be announced in January 2016.

This contest focuses on "fostering the tradition of family respect and building a harmonious family", implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech about “respect for the development of family education and family tradition”. The contest mobilizes society, households, and individuals to offer compassion and practical help to the elderly, further building an atmosphere of respect for the elderly.

The contest aims to "gather original wisdom, help the elderly, and show filial piety and respect for parents", creating a guided, age-friendly, and practical piece of software for the elderly, and providing them with harmonious and mutual assistance. The launch of the app also calls for society to pay more attention to the physiological and psychological needs of the elderly, especially encouraging children to consider the level of care they provide for to their parents. It advocates building up good family traits in line with socialist core values.
