Qin Junling, from OUC School of Xizang, interviews with china.org.cn
Qin Junling said in the interview, "There are hundreds of thousands of teachers in the nation, and I am but one of them. This is an honor for all teachers at the grassroots level. I am a teacher from a Tibetan ethnic minority region and I felt moved to have the chance to obtain this honour. In the future, I will work harder and continue contributing to education in Tibet.”
Qin Junling has twenty years of teaching experience. In her mind, the most important thing in her teaching career is befriending students. She said that, in class, a teacher should impart knowledge to students and treat them with patience and sincerity. They should also communicate with them about life and how to think. This kind of communication is carried out not only because of the simple teacher-student relationship, but, more importantly, to win the trust of students. The key point always remains sincerity. When you win the students’ trust, they are willing to share with you their difficulties in learning and life, and their stress regarding work. Then, you can give them proper assistance and support.
Qin Junling said that among Tibetan students in poverty-stricken areas, many students are farmers, so they need some financial support. Though the support is subtle, it is very important for them in terms of their future growth and success, as well as refining their personality.
In the interview, Qin Junling called for more attention and assistance to education in ethnic minority areas. She said there are a total of six universities in Tibet. Teacher resources are extremely important in facilitating learner development. In recent years, cities nationwide, as well as the national government, have offered great support for Xizang. Every year, many Han teachers come to Tibet to provide assistance. Tibetan teachers also visit the rest of the country to participate in exchanges with teachers and bring back valuable experience. The Tibetan compatriots are very moved by such acts. The OUC School of Xizang, where Qing Junling comes from, is directly affiliated with the OUC. Through modern distance education technology, the school helps Tibetan students receive better quality education, a really positive move.
She added that there is presently still a large gap between Tibet and the rest of China in terms of education development. More professional teachers are urgently needed and assistance to Tibet is expected to intensify. In light of educational development in Tibet and the reality facing minority teachers, targeted support should be given.
