On December 5-6, 2015, a delegation of nine people from the human physiology course teaching team of the Open University of China (OUC) visited Bingtuan Radio & TV University (Bingtuan RTVU) to investigate the construction of the online teaching team.
The research and investigation work focused on the implementation of, and problems faced by, the team building plan, and the students' feedback. The research and investigation methods included field observation at the tutorial centres, face-to-face interviews, questionnaires, and exchanges via the cloud classroom. A total of three tutorial centres, 11 class tutors, and 108 students at Bingtuan RTVU participated in the investigation survey.
The teaching team went to the Sixth Division of Bingtuan RTVU, Bingtuan RTVU headquarters, and the Hongshan Branch of Bingtuan RTVU to conduct the investigation and provide on-site learning guidance. The core members of the teaching team communicated with the class tutors and students at the computer rooms of each branch, reporting the students' learning progress and praising the students that were excelling. Through questionnaires, and group and individual interviews, the core members were able to understand problems that the students encountered in their learning process, and provided guidance and solutions. Their on-site guidance was popular with students, and the students confirmed that online course learning is convenient for on-the-job students in remote areas and those majoring in nursing. According to the investigation, the construction of Bingtuan RTVU has been well implemented. The team members, the tutors, and the students established a solid friendship and deepened their mutual understanding.
The teaching team communicated with class tutors from each branch of Bingtuan RTVU through Bingtuan RTVU’s cloud classroom. Associate Professor Yin Zhiying, the leader of the team, introduced the progress of the human physiology online teaching team, affirming the contribution made by the whole team in achieving the medium-term goal of team construction. The class tutors at each branch of Bingtuan RTVU shared their work experience, the characteristics of their work, and the problems they face. In addition, the team members also exchanged their experiences of preliminary team building and online course teaching, discussed the existing problems, and defined the direction of future work. Yin Zhiying hopes that the team members will continue to carry forward the team spirit of unity, cooperation, dedication, and affection; further analyze the problems they are facing; provide a targeted learning guidance strategy for students who have difficulty completing the learning activities; ensure that students can study online; guarantee satisfactory academic performance; and gradually improved student’s online learning ability.
