Profile:
Wang Qide, Han ethnicity, is from Nanjiang, Sichuan Province, and as a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) he has served as a deputy to the 12th, 13th and 14th National People’s Congress (NPC).
He majored in law at Sichuan Open University (OU), and he is the president of the specialised breeding cooperative of “Wulang” Yellow Goats and “Hongqi” pigs in Nanjiang Township, Sichuan Province. He was awarded “The Tenth National Entrepreneurship Star” and the “National Labour Role Model” in 2020.
In 2004, Wang Qide, after achieving success in his ventures in Fujian, returned to Nanjiang with a deep sense of attachment to his hometown. He rallied the local community to engage in the breeding of yellow goats. By 2024, the Nanjiang Wulang Yellow Goats Breeding Specialised Cooperative, initiated by Wang, had flourished into a leading industrial enterprise integrating breeding, processing, and cultural tourism. It has brought about the participation of over 5,000 households from 28 townships in raising yellow goats, becoming a ‘golden calling card’ of prosperity for the local farmers. Consequently, he is affectionately known by his fellow villagers as the pioneer in poverty alleviation.
"In 2023, our yellow goats achieved a comprehensive output value exceeding 2.4 billion yuan. The local fellow people have seen their financial improve through breeding Nanjiang yellow goats, leading to a more prosperous life," stated Wang Qide. However, during his research, Wang also identified persistent obstacles to expanding the yellow goat industry, namely, a shortage of both technical and managerial talent at the village.
In light of this, Wang Qide has developed his own strategies for addressing these challenges. Firstly, he aims to cultivate talent from local farmers, whom he regards as “local experts”. Their experience makes them highly suitable for this role. Secondly, Wang plans to adopt a "weekend engineer" approach, whereby professionals will be invited to provide technical services in Nanjiang on weekends and holidays receiving good pay as incentive.
During this year's National Two Sessions, Wang Qide proposed initiatives such as inclusion of the Chengdu-Bazhong-Ankang Railway in the Medium- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan, as well as the exploration of a new model for resource development, encompassing natural gas, oil, and other resources, and a mechanism for sharing benefits. Additionally, he advocated for the expansion of the pilot scope of rural collective construction land entering the market. These propositions aim to expedite the development of Bazhong, address existing shortcomings, better serve national strategies, and ensure that the inhabitants of the old revolutionary areas share in the dividends of reform and development.
