On the occasion of the 33rd Teacher’s Day, Xie Nan received a text message from one of her rural students: “I feel so lucky to have you as my teacher, you never look down upon us rural students. I’m not good with words but I want to say ‘Happy Teacher’s Day’ to you.”

In Lilong Village, Xinluhe town, Zhongfang county, 39-year-old village secretary, Yang Xiuhe, has enrolled at Huaihua Radio and Television University (Huaihua RTVU), which added to the number of college students in the village.

In 2012, the Open University of China was founded based on the existing China Central Radio & TV University. The Ministry of Education’s Approval for the Establishment of the Open University of China, founded through the China Central Radio & TV University proposed that the OUC should "further form an effective quality assurance system."

In order to create an upgraded version of the Ministry of Education’s "One College Student Per Village Programme," and actively implement the new "Integration of Six Networks” model, the OUC’s headquarters and Hunan Branch launched a "Rural College Student Training Programme" mobile learning pilot in 2015.

Education and teaching reform is a current focus of society. Teachers are a critical factor in teaching reform. We must study learners, optimise teaching and learning environments, adjust teaching goals, reform teaching content and improve curriculum systems, develop high quality online courses, build a networked teaching team, provide a flexible and convenient learning style, exercise professional spirit, knowledge, and ability to enhance the conscientiousness of curriculum reform, and improve course construction, as well as operation and innovation ability.

From 7-8th September 2017, the 7th OUJ-OUC-KNOU International Seminar was held at the Open University of Japan (OUJ).

"The key to judging whether a place is well-off or not lies in its residents.” In Gansu province, one of the main battle fields of poverty alleviation in China, the cost of poverty reduction for the remaining residents below the poverty line is getting higher and poverty relieving work is getting more difficult.

On 20th July 2016, the OUC and McDonald's China announced their strategic cooperation plan, launching the "Plan for Realising the University Dreams of McDonald’s Employees", an academic education programme for McDonald's staff.
