On the morning of January 18, 27 disabled people received undergraduate diplomas in social work from Shenzhen School of the OUC’s School for the Disabled at its first undergraduate graduation ceremony.
In 2001, Shenzhen Disabled Persons’ Federation
and Shenzhen RTVU jointly established and financed distance education courses designed specially for the disabled. Over the past 12 years, more than 200 people with disability have enrolled at Shenzhen RTVU and gained the chance to live out their dreams.
According to Deng Mengzhong, president of Shenzhen RTVU, Shenzhen RTVU began to provide social work courses in 2009 and enrolled 38 people with disability, who became the first disabled undergraduates receiving open and distance education.
Today, 27 of the students have already received their diploma. Xu Yiyun is one of the graduates. Her scores qualify her to apply for a bachelor’s degree at the China University of Political Science and Law. She is the only student out of 40,000 to receive a special award from Shenzhen RTVU.
